It’s not ‘what is’ — a breakup, a distressing diagnosis, bankruptcy, angry boss — that bothers you, but the emotion behind it. How does your issue make you feel? What does it remind you of from your past? Once you are aware of that, you can choose to say something else about it. And as you’re continually dwelling (thinking, visualizing, talking) on a new mental-emotional story, the ‘what is’ shifts to match your updated, inner reality.
